What does it mean to have a pen pal?

The American Heritage Girls National Pen Pal Program (NPPP) is a unique and fun opportunity for girls to make friends in other Troops across the nation. Girls participating in the NPPP write letters or type emails to each other, sending pictures, birthday cards, etc.

How do I get a pen pal?

Online pen pal registration runs from October 1st - November 30th. Registered Girl Members will receive an email invitation to join the 2017 NPPP on Oct. 1, 2016.  Talk to your parent or guardian about your interest in the NPPP. To get a pen pal, follow the link within your email invitation to sign up.
You will receive your pen pal's name in December; she may be from California, Alaska, Florida, or even Connecticut! Once you have your pen pal's name and address, you will write letters (or type emails) to each other for one year, sharing the fun things you do in the AHG Program, how school is going for you, and any exciting adventures you may experience.

Can I earn a patch for the Pen Pal Program?

Yes, Pen Pal Patches are sent to Troop Coordinators. The Pen Pal Patches are to be worn on the back of your vest or sash.

Is there a fee to sign up?

Yes, there is a nonrefundable $8 fee per girl to join the NPPP. This participation fee covers patch, administrative, and technology costs.

Are there any rules?

Yes, you are expected to write your pen pal at least once per month during the pen pal program year. Since birthdays and holidays are special to us all, show how much you care about your pen pal by sending an additional letter or card on these important days. Most importantly, pray for one another! Spiritual encouragement is the best form of support you can give to another friend.  Lift her up and be the best friend you can be to her.

When do I get my pen pal?

Registration is from October 1st - November 30th. Pen pal matches are sent in December so you can write for one full calendar year, starting in January. If you missed this year's deadline, don't worry! You'll have an opportunity to sign up next year.
